London Gatwick

About London Gatwick Airport

London Gatwick Airport, usually known as ‘Gatwick’, is one of London’s five airports, along with Heathrow, Stansted, Luton and City. Britain’s second busiest airport, its two terminals – North and South – carry over 31 million passengers each year. It covers over 200 worldwide destinations, from national and European to long-haul routes, and is the London base for many charter airlines. Located around 28 miles south of London in West Sussex, it’s easily accessible from the M23 or A23 from London. Short- and long-term car parks are available at the airport, with the long-stay parks furthest from the terminal being the cheapest, along with a ‘meet and greet’ priority parking service.

If you’re travelling by public transport, the main coach station is located in the South Terminal, with a huge range of services covering over 400 different routes. National Express coaches run to London, Heathrow Airport and destinations across the UK, and there are Gatwick Flyer services to destinations east of London and the easyBus to Fulham Broadway. Dot2dot minibus shuttles connect to Heathrow and central London and offer pick ups from many London hotels. There are also Gatwick Express trains which connect the South Terminal to London Victoria station in 30 minutes, and several other mainline train services, including the Thameslink to London King’s Cross station.

If you’re arriving early or late, an airport hotel can help you avoid a journey in the dark. Closest to the terminals and connected by covered walkway are the London Gatwick Hilton for the South Terminal and the Sofitel London Gatwick Hotel for the Northern. Or for something even closer, if a bit compact, the Yotel is a Japanese-style ‘capsule hotel’ you can book for four or 24 hours right within South Terminal International Arrivals. There are also a wide range of other hotels within a couple of miles of the airport. Check the deals available as airport hotels often offer free transfers, and some have parking deals which may work out cheaper than paying for separate parking.
