London Stansted

About London Stansted Airport

London Stansted Airport, usually known as ‘Stansted’, is one of London’s five airports, along with Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and City. Britain’s third busiest airport with around 23 million passengers each year, it’s the major base for European low-cost airlines. Located around 30 miles north-east of London in Essex, it’s an easy journey from London, being only 20 minutes from the M25 and right next to Junction 8 of the M11. Short-, medium- and long-term parking are all available at the airport, along with a ‘meet and greet’ priority parking service.

If you’re travelling by public transport, there is a coach station in front of the terminal and a train station underneath the building. National Express coach services run to the airport from across the UK, and there are Easybus and Terravision Express Shuttles to various destinations in London. Mainline train services link Stansted with Cambridge, Leicester and Birmingham, and the Stansted Express trains take 45 minutes to London’s Liverpool Street station.

If you’re arriving early or late, an airport hotel can help you avoid a journey in the dark. The Hilton London Stansted is located on the airport site and the Radisson SAS is linked to the terminal by a covered walkway. There are also a range of other hotels within a couple of miles of the airport. Check the deals available as airport hotels often offer free transfers, and some have parking deals which may work out cheaper than paying for separate parking.
